Saratoga RacetrackLooking for a place to spend the day in the summer that is not the beach? Saratoga provides the perfect balance of excitement and relaxation for spending a summer afternoon. Pack a lunch and a cooler of beer, grab your lawn chair and head on over to the races.

Entrance to the race course is only $3 per person which is one of the cheapest tickets you can get to any attraction anywhere. Bring the family, with children under 12 able to get in for free. People will show up early to the track in order to stake a claim to a picnic table or bench near the track. Weekdays are less busy than the weekends but may have races with smaller purses than on the weekends if you care about that sort of thing – you can have a great time either way.

The atmosphere at Saratoga is very laid back and relaxing, set on a spread-out area of lawns behind the grandstands. You can walk around the area, checking out the paddock where the horses are being prepared for the races or hang out in the grandstands. There are also areas that can be reserved in advance if you are looking for a private area for your and your friends.

Saratoga’s racing season is a 40 day period beginning in July. In 2012 the season runs from Friday July 20 to Monday, September 3. There are many events throughout the summer at Saratoga Race Course, culminating with the $1 million Travers Stakes.
